Black Book.
A graffiti artist's sketchbook. Also known as a "piece book." It is often used to sketch out and plan potential graffiti, and to collect tags from other writers. It is a writer's most valuable property, containing all or a majority of the person's sketches and pieces.
As the artist grows up, practises, and improves, they go through many blackbooks. They are swapped and shared between writers and crews to show who they’ve been in contact with and who’s visited where.
In time, a graffiti artists’ blackbooks become miniature time capsules capturing the years of blood, sweat, and tears. They capture the trial and error, the improvements, failures, and often become a source of inspiration for an artist looking back at where they’ve come from.
WHO ARE WE?
Our studio is a stark contrast from what the public has come to know from the tattoo culture in South Africa.
We are not your usual, intimidating and somewhat overwhelming "norm" of the tattoo shop spectrum.
Black Book is a private, secure, intimate and creative space where our main focus is providing clients with a unique, one -on -one tattoo experience. Our studio is not a retail "shop" space, but a home away from home where clients can relax, watch movies or listen to music while enjoying the peace that comes with getting tattooed in private studio space.
Right from the design process all the way through to the actual final tattoo itself, our artists create pieces that are not only made with years of artistic experience but that are completely unique to you, the wearer.

A cover up tattoo is a design that’s tattooed over the top of an older tattoo, so the older one is no longer visible. In some cases this means blastovers, blackouts, and heavily saturated tattoos.
